tape illusions I
a fully automated audiovisual installation utilizing super 8 projectors, close mic’d amplification, live processing and a revolutionary approach to closed-circuit regenerative content creation. The piece at first appears to be a classic triptych, but instead of featuring three still images working in collaboration, the piece utilizes a constantly shifting audio/visual system to take us into the world of the triptych. the images are in constant flux – but when the computer randomly pauses the image, we are cast into the triptych proper. between the creation of these classic format projections, the images are supported by corresponding sound. using close microphone techniques, tape delay and feedback loops, a continuously evolving environment is created by the super 8 projectors themselves. this self-referential process, enables the creation of an explicit awakening in perception at the point of the ‘triptych freeze’.
